This specimen was lot 23858 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $35,250. The catalog description[1] noted, "Maria I & Pedro III gold 1600 Reis 1781-B, AU58 NGC. With beautiful patina and deep orange toning. It's incredibly difficult for the minor gold issues of 1600 Reis and 3200 Reis of colonial era Brazil to appear in any condition let alone very near mint state. Details in the Queen's hair shows no sign of circulation with the tiniest rub on the top of forehead. Another of the many special coins of the RLM Collection. From The RLM Collection, Part II." This type, the last of this denomination, was struck 1781-84; all dates are rare as is this denomination as a class.
