This specimen was lot 23214 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "Jose I gold 6400 Reis 1772R, AU58 NGC, a choice lustrous example, very close to mint state." The type was struck in Rio and Bahia (KM 172.1) 1751-77. The Bahia mint issues are generally scarcer than the Rio issues.

Recorded mintage: 365,000.

Specification: 14.34 g, 0.917 fine gold, .423 troy oz AGW.
