This specimen was lot 23322 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $2,232.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Jose I gold 6400 Reis 1762-R, MS61 NGC, a nice lustrous piece, attractive for this designation." This type was struck 1751-77 and is among the more available colonial gold coins of Brazil. A 1762/1 overdate is noted.

Recorded mintage: 475,000.

Specification: 14.34 g, 0.917 fine gold, .423 troy oz AGW.
