This specimen was lot 23188 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $14,687.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "João V gold 1600 Reis 1729B, first type of crowned arms, Fine Details NGC. No rim issues, just naturally circulated. Reverse is VF. Scarce early 1600 Reis of João V. From The RLM Collection." This type was struck at the Minas Gerais mint 1727-33 and at Bahia 1727-50 and at Rio 1727-36. Rio is the commonest of the three mints but is still rare.
