This specimen was lot 2228 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,614 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRASILIEN, Johann V., 1706-1750. 4.800 Reis (Nennwert: 4.000 Reis) 1718 R, Rio de Janeiro. GOLD. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Brazil, John V, 1706-50, 4,800 réis of 1718 (face value 4,000 réis), Rio de Janiero mint. Extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This type was struck 1714-27 at Rio (shown here) and Bahia. Mintage of this denomination was suspended in 1727; when it resumed in 1749 it was at a lower weight of 8.07 g.
