This specimen was lot 23158 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $881.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Pedro II 640 Reis 1700/699P Shield Counterstamp, XF40 NGC, nicely toned with a sharp shield counterstamp (applied in 1809). Scarce and attractive host coin." The Lisbon mint struck this type in several varieties 1699-1700. It saw hard use for over a century as evidenced by the 1809 counterstamp.
