Künker sale 400, lot 78

This specimen was lot 78 in Künker sale 400 (Berlin, February 2024), where it sold for €9,000 (about US$11,676 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG, KURFÜRSTENTUM, Friedrich Wilhelm, der Große Kurfürst, 1640-1688. Dukat 1665, Königsberg. 3.48 g. Geharnischtes Brustbild r. mit Krone und geschultertem Schwert//Vierfeldiges Wappen. GOLD. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Leichte Prägeschwäche, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, electorate of Brandenburg, Frederick William, the Great Elector, 1640-88, ducat of 1665, Königsberg mint. Obverse: crowned and armored bust right with sword; reverse: quartered arms. Very scarce, especially in this quality, choice example, slightly weakly struck, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

The SCWC lists four ducats for 1665 (KM 325, 335, 340, 341). All are rare but this one is the most common. It was issued in small numbers 1664-67.
