Brandenburg 1500 groschen
This specimen was lot 306 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €600 (about US$809 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, BRANDENBURG, MARKGRAFSCHAFT, SEIT DEM 14. JAHRHUNDERT KURFÜRSTENTUM Joachim I. 1499-1535. Groschen 1500, Frankfurt/Oder. Die Jahreszahl ist mit "HV" angegeben. Von größter Seltenheit. Vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Brandenburg, Joachim I, 1499-1535, groschen of 1500, Frankfurt mint, year is indicated by "HV". Very rare, extremely fine.)"
In the sixteenth century, Brandenburg was an insignificant state in the north of Germany, overshadowed by Saxony. We don't know if this coin circulated in Brandenburg or in the duchy of Prussia or both.
