Jean Elsen sale 151, lot 1382

This specimen was lot 1382 in Jean Elsen sale 151 (Brussels, June 2022), where it sold for €600 (about US$750 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ALLEMAGNE, BRANDEBOURG-FRANCONIE, Friedrich IV (1495-1515), AV florin d'or, 1512, Schwabach. D/ Saint Jean-Baptiste deb. de f., montrant l'agneau de Dieu. Entre ses pieds, une t. de chien. R/ Croix fleuronnée, cantonnée des écus de Brandebourg, Poméranie, Burggraf et Zollern. Coup sur la tranche. presque Superbe. (Germany, margraviate of Brandenburg-Franconia, Frederick IV, 1495-1515, gold florin of 1512, Schwabach mint. Obverse: St. John the Baptist facing, holding the Lamb of God, a dog's head between his feet; reverse: floriate cross, cantonned with the arms of Brandenburg, Pomerania, Burggraf and Hohenzollern. Edge nick, about Extremely Fine.)"

Friedberg lists this type for 1497-1515. Many, such as this one, come with dates. Brandenburg-Franconia was divided into Brandenburg-Ansbach and Brandenburg-Bayreuth on the death of Georg Friedrich in 1603.
