Stack's Bowers 2015 NYINC sale, lot 608

This specimen was lot 608 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $3,525. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brandenburg-Ansbach. Taler, 1775. Alexander I (1757-91). NGC MS-65. The finest certified specimen. Star below bust. Toned with hints of luster peering through. Very sharp details. Exceptionally choice and a real prize for any collection. From the Rockaway Collection." This type was issued 1775 only and is listed as scarce. It comes not from the Electorate of Brandenburg (later the Kingdom of Prussia) but from Brandenburg-Ansbach, a Hohenzollern enclave west of Bavaria and neighboring Nuremburg.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
