This specimen was lot 40527 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $3,055. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brandenburg-Ansbach. Taler, 1730. PCGS MS-62 Secure Holder. Karl Wilhelm Friedrich (1713-40). 200th Anniversary of Augsburg Confession. Sharply struck." This rare type is one of three thalers struck in Ansbach in 1730; the others are Dav-1981 and Dav-1981A. Brandenburg-Ansbach is in central Germany just north of Bavaria.
