This specimen was lot 47109 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brandenburg-Ansbach-Bayreuth. Pfennig, 1797-B. Friedrich Wilhelm II. PCGS MS-64." In 1791, the margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach and Brandenburg-Bayreuth sold his realm to the king of Prussia and retired to England as a hobby farmer. The king of Prussia issued a series of billon coins for his new acquisition in 1792-97, including this one pfennig, a kreuzer (KM 6) and a six kreuzer (KM 16). The two provinces eventually passed to Bavaria in 1806 during Napoleon's mediatization.
