The first specimen was lot 821 in Jean Elsen sale 121 (Brussels, June 2014), where it sold for €100 (about US$160 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Charles II (1665-1700), AR patagon, 1695, Anvers. Nouveau type. Frappe médaille. Tranche cordée. Droit: Croix de Bourgogne couronnée, ornée du bijou de la Toison d'or, accostée du monogramme royal couronné. Revers: Ecu couronné, entouré du collier de la Toison d'or. Traces d'ajustage. Légère trace de monture. Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Charles II (1665-1700), silver patagon of 1695, Antwerp mint, new type, medal strike, reeded edge. Obverse: Burgundian cross, ornamented with the Golden Fleece and the crowned royal monogram. Reverse: crowned arms, with the Order of the Golden Fleece around. Adjustment marks, mount mark, very fine.)"

The second specimen was lot 672 in Jean Elsen sale 161 (Brussels, March 2025), where it sold for €300 (about US$391 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Charles II (1665-1700), AR patagon, 1695, Anvers. Nouveau type. Tranche cordée. D/ Croix de Bourgogne couronnée, ornée du bijou de la Toison d'or, accostée du monogramme royal couronné. R/ Écu couronné, entouré du collier de la Toison d'or. . Défaut de flan sur la tranche. Le revers désaxé à 7h. (duchy of Brabant, Charles II, 1665-1700, new type, medal strike, reeded edge. Obverse: Burgundian cross, ornamented with the Golden Fleece and the crowned royal monogram. Reverse: crowned arms, with the Order of the Golden Fleece around. Planchet defect on the edge, the reverse rotated to 7 o'clock, Very Fine.)"

Patagons were issued in the Spanish Netherlands and associated states (including the bishopric of Liège and Franche Comte) during the seventeenth century, where they competed with French écus, German talers and Dutch daalders and ducatons. These patagons were issued from Brussels 1686-95 and Antwerp (hand mintmark, shown here) 1694-1700 but all dates are rare.
