Áureo y Calicó sale 347, lot 162

This specimen was lot 162 in Áureo y Calicó sale 347 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,452 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1562. Felipe II. Amberes. 1 escudo felipe. Marca de ceca en anverso y reverso. Las letras A son V invertidas. Parte de brillo original. Buen ejemplar. Rara y más así. EBC-. (duchy of Brabant, Philip II, écu Philippe of 1562, Antwerp mint, mintmark on obverse and reverse. The "A's" in the legend are inverted "V's". Some luster, nice example, rare thus, about extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1562 only after the death of Philip's wife, Mary of England. It has mintmarks on both sides.
