Jean Elsen sale 146, lot 1081

This specimen was lot 1081 in Jean Elsen sale 146 (Brussels, November 2020), where it sold for €800 (about US$1,166 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Philippe II (1555-1598), AV couronne d'or, s.d. (1560-1576), Anvers. D/ Croix fleurdelisée, cantonnée de deux lions et de deux briquets. R/ Ecu couronné, accosté de P-P. Griffes et petits coups. Très Beau. Provient de la collection A.M. Huntington et de notre vente 115, 8 décembre 2012, 188. (duchy of Brabant, Philip II, 1555-98, undated gold crown, Antwerp mint. Obverse: floriate cross, cantonned with two lions and two briquets; reverse: crowned arms divide "P-P". Scratches and minor nicks. Very Fine.)"

This type was struck in Brabant and Flanders and later in Artois and Tournai.
