Brabant (1309-12) esterlin
This specimen was lot 595 in Jean Elsen sale 159 (Brussels, June 2024), where it sold for €100 (about US$129 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRABANT, Duché, Jean II (1294-1312), AR esterlin, 1309-1312, Anvers. D/ Ecu parti de Brabant-Limbourg. R/ MON-ETA- ANT-VVP' Croix longue cantonnée de quatre trèfles. Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, John II, 1294-1312, silver esterlin, circa 1309-12, Antwerp mint. Obverse: impaled arms of Brabant and Limburg; reverse: long cross cantonned with four trefoils. very fine.)"
Jean's line fell extinct in 1406 and the duchy became a Valois appanage. We're guessing that this coin was one quarter of a gros tournois.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen is 1,12 g.
