Brabant (1294-1300) gros
This specimen was lot 514 in Sincona sale 89 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$595 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BELGIEN Brabant, Herzogtum, Jean II. 1294-1312. Gros tournois o. J. (nach 1294-1300), Antwerpen. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Kricheldorf 47, Berlin, Juli 2002, Los 421. Exemplar der Auktion WAG 4, Dortmund, September 1994, Los 2274. (Belgium, duchy of Brabant, John II, 1294-1312, undated gros tournois, circa 1294-1300, Antwerp mint. Rare in this condition, Extremely fine.)"
Wikipedia comments, "John II (27 September 1275 – 27 October 1312), also called John the Peaceful, was Duke of Brabant, Lothier and Limburg (1294–1312). He was the son of John I of Brabant and Margaret of Flanders." His line fell extinct in 1406 and the duchy became a Valois appanage.
