Bosnia and Herzegovina 1998-PM 100 maraka
This specimen was lot 1543 in Sincona sale 94 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$1,109 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BOSNIEN & HERZEGOWINA Republik, seit 1995. 100 Maraka 1998, Pobjoy Mint. Auf die XXVII. Olympischen Sommerspiele in Sydney. Speerwerfer. Nur 5'000 Exemplare geprägt. Polierte Platte. Im Originaletui mit Zertifikat. (republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, one hundred maraka of 1998, Pobjoy mint, for the 27th Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, javelin throwing. Only 5,000 specimens struck, Choice Proof, In original box with certificate.)"
Bosnia is one of the fragments of the former Yugoslavia and has the misfortune of being the most heavily fought over. Most of her coinage is comprised of NCLT's, many struck and sold by the Pobjoy mint. The SCWC lists this as a 100 marka but "100 MARAKA" is what is stamped on the coin.
Recorded mintage: est. 5,000.
Specification: 6.22 g, 0.999 fine gold, 0.200 troy oz AGW, this specimen 6.28 g.
