Bosnia and Herzegovina 1993 70 ecus
This specimen was lot 70358 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA. 70 Ecus + 10 Ecus, 1993. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. Commemorating the Sarajevo Mosque and appealing for peace. This relic of the Balkans conflict presents nearly flawless surfaces and a stunning cameo effect." Bosnia is one of the fragments of the former Yugoslavia and has the misfortune of being the most heavily fought over. Most of her coinage is comprised of NCLT's, many struck and sold by the Pobjoy mint. This one is denominated in ECU's (European Currency Unit), a proposed currency which later became the euro.
