Bolivia 1951H boliviano rev DSLR.jpg

The specimen shown is a type struck by the Heaton mint for Bolivia in 1951. It, with an accompanying five and ten bolivianos, was the last coinage issue until 1965. It is also reported from the Potosi mint and the King's Norton mint in Britain. In 1965 the boliviano, which had not been struck since 1951, was dropped in favor of the peso boliviano, which lasted until 1979. In 1987 the boliviano was resumed, with 1 boliviano = 1,000,000 pesos boliviano. Much of South America went through the same hyperinflationary stress as Bolivia, exacerbated by incompetent military rule. The coin has little collector value except in Uncirculated.

Recorded mintage: 15,000,000.

Specification: bronze.

Catalog reference: KM 184.
