Bolivia 1893-PTS CB boliviano
This type was struck in large quantities 1872-77 after Bolivia converted to decimal coinage in 1864. The boliviano was adopted as the successor to the old eight soles (or sueldos; the sources do not agree) and struck in various forms 1864-93. The series contains many rare dates and varieties such as this one. The silver boliviano effectively ended in 1875; later dates (1877, 1879, 1884, 1887, 1893) exist but they are very rare. This specimen was lot 2601 in SINCONA sale 1 (Zürich, June 2011), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA Republic. Boliviano 1893. Assayer CB. Extremely rare. Almost extremely fine."
