Bolivia 1883-EG centavo KM-E2
This specimen was lot 71179 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. Bronze Centavo Essai (Pattern), 1883-EG. Paris Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-65 Red Brown. Fully red and vibrant, this Gem pattern issue also yields intense brilliance and captivating eye appeal. From the David Sterling Collection." Another pattern exists (KM E1) with Paris mint privy marks instead of "EG" and "ESSAI", shown here. The production issue is catalogued as KM 167. These were produced under contract for Bolivia along with base metal two, five and ten centavos. They do not seem to have been a success, as none were produced again.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: copper, 24 mm diameter.
