Sincona sale 63, lot 128

This specimen was lot 128 in Sincona sale 63 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 225 CHF (about US$282 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Bolivien, Republik. 5 Centavos 1872 PTS-ER, Potosi. Sehr selten. Angeblich nur 2 Exemplare bekannt. Sehr schön. (republic of Bolivia, five centavos of 1872, Potosi mint. Very rare. Probably only 2 pieces known, Very fine.)"

This type was struck 1871-72 only as part of Bolivia's second decimal coinage. The obverse was modified to show nine stars instead of the previous eleven. Later in 1872, the reverse was modified to read "LA UNION ES LA FUERZA". Assayer FE is much more common.

Specification: 1.15 g, 0.900 fine silver, this specimen 1.10 g.
