This silver ten centavos was minted in Bolivia in 1870-72. The specimen was lot 20333 in Heritage sale 3009 (Chicago, April 2010), where it sold for $632.50, a price this writer regards as astonishing. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 10 Centavos 1870-ER, MS67 NGC Whittier Collection, a superbly struck coin with full mint brilliance, certainly one of the finest known. First legend type with DIEZ Cts." This type is listed as slightly scarcer than the subsequent type (KM 158.1) struck 1873-1900, which was only 2.3 grams.
