Bolivia 1861-PTS FJ 2 soles
This specimen was lot 1185 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $1,149.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA, Republic. 1825-present. AR 2 Soles – 1/4 Peso. Potosí mint. Fortunato Equivar and Joaquin Zemborain, assayers. Dated 1861 PTS FJ. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 63. Lovely moderately toned, semi prooflike example with fully lustrous fields. Well struck relief. None graded higher. Purchased from World-Wide Coins of Atlanta, February 1971." The Potosí mint produced these two sol coins 1860-63 in numerous varieties. These coins, tho not full weight, mark a restoration to full fineness after many years of debased coinage.
