CNG Lissner sale, lot 1200

This specimen was lot 1200 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $2,904. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA, Republic. 1825-present. AR 8 Soles – 1 Peso. Potosí mint. Fortunato Equivar and Joaquin Zemborain, assayers. Dated 1859 PTS FJ. No period after F. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 62. Grayish moderate toning overall with strong strike. Very rare one year type and listed in KM only as high as XF. Ex F.C.C. Boyd Collection (Superior Stamp & Coin, 19 August 1975), lot 1774." This type was struck 1859 only (with KM 138.1 and 138.2) and is rare. The plate coin in the SCWC has a chop mark.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: 27 g, 0.903 fine silver, this specimen Ø36 mm, 27.33 g, 6h axis.
