Bolivia 1852-PTS FP 8 scudos Fr-34
This specimen was lot 20179 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2019), where it sold for $1,620. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. 8 Escudos, 1852-PTS FP. Potosí Mint. NGC EF-45. Laureate bust right. A SCARCE type though less so than the Laureate Bust Left we are also offering in this sale. Nice even wear, no obvious defects and a fair amount of residual luster." While silver coins from Bolivia exist in vast quantities, gold from Bolivia is scarce. For the colonial period, Colombia may be regarded as the most prolific issuer, followed by Mexico, followed by Peru. Bolivia, Chile and Guatemala are minor sources. This type was minted 1852-57 and is scarce, especially in nice condition. Another eight scudos (KM 115), with the bust facing left, was struck 1852 only.
