Bolivia 1852-PTS FM 8 soles

This type was struck in reasonable quantities 1852-56 after Bolivian independence. It is slightly less common than the earlier laureate head designs (KM 97 and KM 103) but it is not rare. This coin often comes poorly struck on bad planchets; this specimen is above average. Later eight soles (or sueldos; the sources do not agree) were struck to the same weight standard until 1859, when the weight was lowered to 20 grams. This specimen was lot 13033 in Ponterio sale 177. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Well struck, lustrous and choice for type."
