This specimen was lot 1075 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $4830. The catalog description[1] noted, "1842 LR 8 escudos. Potosi mint. MS-63 (NGC). Sunset over mountain type. Bright and lustrous yellow gold. An impressive piece, finer than the vast majority of those known. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942." This type was struck 1841-47 and is not rare but usually found impaired.
