Bolivia 1837-PTS LM scudo
This specimen was lot 1056 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 575 CHF (about US$690 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Republik 1 Escudo 1837. Fast vorzüglich. (republic of Bolivia, one escudo of 1837, About extremely fine.)"
While silver coins from Bolivia exist in vast quantities, gold from Bolivia is scarce. For the colonial period, Colombia may be regarded as the most prolific issuer, followed by Mexico, followed by Peru. Bolivia, Chile and Guatemala are minor sources. This type was struck 1831-40 and doesn't catalog for much but nice specimens are few and far between.
