Bohemia 1644 thaler Dav-3210
This specimen was lot 1267 in UBS sale 85 (Zürich, September 2010), where it sold for 2700 CHF (about US$3,080 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ÖSTERREICH Ferdinand III. 1627-1657 Taler 1644, Joachimsthal. Drapiertes, belorbeertes Brustbild nach rechts. Rv. Gekrönter, nimbierter Doppeladler mit gekröntem Wappen auf der Brust. Gutes sehr schön." (Austria, Ferdinand III, 1627-57, thaler of 1644, Joachimsthal mint. Obverse: draped, laureate bust facing right; reverse: crowned, nimbate double-headed eagle with crowned arms on the breast. Good Very Fine.)
This author could not find this type in the SCWC but a very similar type is listed for Prague in Bohemia, 1641-56. It is likely that this coin is rare, judging by the price realized.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 28,55 g.
Catalog reference: Diet. 813, Dav-3210, similar to KM 453 but Joachimsthal mint.
