Sincona sale 43, lot 4232

This specimen was lot 4232 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 1,300 CHF (about US$1,551 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Bern, Stadt und Kanton, Halbtaler 1835. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. FDC. Herrliche Patina. NGC MS64. (city and canton of Bern, half thaler of 1835. Cabinet piece. Brilliant uncirculated, Most attractive patina.)"

This scarce type accompanied a four franken also issued in 1835. The last Bernese coin is a rappen dated 1836. The confederation of 1848 ended cantonal issues.
