Sincona sale 95, lot 4149

This specimen was lot 4149 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$347 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Bern, Stadt und Kanton, Vierteltaler (10 Batzen) 1758, Bern. Fast FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung mit herrlicher Patina. (Switzerland, canton of Bern, quarter thaler or ten batzen of 1758, Bern mint. About Uncirculated, Beautiful condition with magnificent patina.)"

This type was struck 1757-60 and 1773-74 and is affordable for a cantonal coin of the period. In Germany, the convention thaler was 120 kreuzer; in Switzerland, the thaler was 160 kreuzer, making this coin ten batzen or forty kreuzer.
