Sincona sale 95, lot 4100

This specimen was lot 4100 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 850 CHF (about US$1,178 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Bern, Stadt und Kanton, Kreuzer 1590, Bern. Sehr selten. Fast sehr schön. Schrötlingsriss. (Switzerland, canton of Bern, kreuzer of 1590, Bern mint. Very rare, About Very Fine, Flan crack.)"

This type was struck 1560-70, 1583-84, 1590, 1595-96. The reverse legend, "✥ BERCHT ∙ D ∙ ZERI ∙ CONDI", likely refers to Berthold V, last duke of Zähringen (r. 1186-1218).
