Sincona sale 98, lot 4085

This specimen was lot 4085 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 225 CHF (about US$326 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Bern, Stadt und Kanton, Halbbatzen 1590, Bern. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Fast vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion SINCONA 6, Zürich, Mai 2012, Los 2989. Es wird immer wieder vergessen, dass der Vorderseitenstempel dieses Halbbatzens 1590 auch für die Prägung der Goldgulden von 1590 Verwendung fand. (Switzerland, city and canton of Bern, half batzen of 1590, Bern mint. Rare in this condition, About Extremely Fine. It is often forgotten that the obverse die of this half batzen was also used for the minting of the goldgulden of 1590.)"

Numista states this type was also struck in 1594 and 1614.
