Steve Album sale 55, lot 748
Bengal in 1942, from Hammond's atlas

This specimen was lot 748 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "BENGAL PRESIDENCY: AE pice, Agra, AH1220 year 47, in the name of Shah Alam II, flintlock pistol on reverse; this is the first example we have seen with both full date and regnal year, attractive VF, RR." This copper pice vaguely resembles KM 16, struck years 28, 35, 42, 43, 45, 46 and 49 without calendar dates. While the Mughal Empire lasted, the British in Bengal were careful to strike coinage in the emperor's name.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: 10.06 g, copper, this specimen 9.10 g.

Catalog reference: Stv-8.2e, KM 16?
