The specimen shown is an example of a type struck in Belgium 1999-2006. Like other members of the Eurozone, Belgium began minting euros in 1999 but their use did not become compulsory until 2002. The admission of additional members caused the reverse to be redesigned in 2007 to show the enlarged zone.
Recorded mintage: 30,135,000 plus 15,000 proofs.
Specification: 5.73 g., brass, 22.1 mm diameter, Obv: royal seal of 1144, country name in looped design by Vitor Santos; Rev: value and map within circle by Luc Luycx; Edge: reeded and plain sections.
Catalog reference: KM 228.
