Belgium 1909 50 centiemen
This specimen was lot 1090 in Jean Elsen sale 121 (Brussels, June 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold II (1865-1909), AR 50 centiemen, 1909 NL, TH. VINCOTTE avec point. Belle patine. Fleur de Coin. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold II (1865-1909), silver fifty centimes of 1909, Dutch legends, nice toning, uncirculated.)"
This coin, one of a type struck 1907 and 1909 during the reign of Leopold III of Belgium (1865-1909), was struck with Walloons (dialect of French) and Flemish (dialect of Dutch) legends. The Walloons legend type is shown here; it is not rare, tho expensive in nice condition.
Recorded mintage: 2,510,000 plus 2,503,000 with French legends (KM 60.1).
Specification: 2.5 g, 0.835 fine silver, 18 mm diameter.
