This specimen was lot 727 in Jean Elsen list 269 (Brussels, July-August 2014), where it was offered for €900 (about US$1,224). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold II (1865-1909), AR 50 centimes, 1881 sur 1861, Rare. Superbe à Fleur de Coin (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold II (1865-1909), silver fifty centimes, 1881/61. Rare, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This type was struck for Belgium in 1866-68, 1881, 1886 and 1898-99 along with a similar type with Dutch legends (KM 27). This type is remarkably scarce despite its large mintage.
