This specimen was lot 74520 in Stack's Bowers May 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $109. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Bavaria. 5 Mark, 1891-D. Munich Mint. Otto. PCGS EF-40." This type was struck 1891-1908 and 1913 and is common. King Otto, traumatized by his combat experience in the Austro-Prussian war, ruled under a regency for his entire reign.
Recorded mintage: 98,420, a slightly better date.
Specification: 27.77 g, 0.900 fine, 38 mm diameter, lettered edge.
