Bavaria in 1806

This specimen was lot 166 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,591 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Maximilian I. (IV.) Joseph, 1799-1806-1825. Konv.-Taler 1806. Königstaler. Variante mit nach außen blickenden Löwen. RR Feine Kratzer, vorzüglich. (kingdom of Bavaria, Maximilian Joseph, 1806-25, convention thaler of 1806, king's thaler with lions facing outwards. Rare, fine scratches, extremely fine.)"

This is the first thaler struck after Maximilian was promoted from Elector to King by Napoleon. The more common variety (Dav-548) shows the lions on the reverse facing inward.
