This specimen was lot 314 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $2,820. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. Batthyani. Taler, 1788. Ludwig (1788-1806). NGC MS-65. Finest certified example. Attractive iridescent toning with reflective surfaces. Sharply struck with great eye appeal. From the Rockaway Collection." This rare issue was struck for the prince in 1788 and is one of three thalers issued for the Batthyani family in the eighteenth century.
Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
