Aureo y Calicó sale 423, lot 1293

This specimen was lot 1293 in Aureo y Calicó sale 423 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 380 € (about US$492 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Alfonso II (1285-1291). Barcelona. Croat. Two and four rings in the dress. Attractive. Scarce in this condition. MBC+ [choice very fine]." Alfonso III (1265-1291), was king of Aragon and Valencia, and count of Barcelona (as Alfons II) from 1285 until his death. He conquered the Kingdom of Majorca between his succession and 1287. He died at the age of 25 and is mentioned in Dante's Divine Comedy.
