Jean Elsen sale 133, lot 1101

This specimen was lot 1101 in Jean Elsen sale 133 (Brussels, June 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"ALLEMAGNE, BAMBERG, Evêché, Christoph Franz von Buseck (1795-1802), AR Konventionstaler, 1800. D/ Armoiries couronnées, séparant la date. R/ Vue de la ville. Au-dessus, la valeur dans une couronne. Belle patine. Superbe. (bishopric of Bamberg, Christoph Franz von Buseck (1795-1802), silver convention thaler of 1800. Obverse: crowned arms divide the date; reverse: city view, the denomination above in a wreath. Nice toning, extremely fine.)"

This type was struck in 1800 as the last thaler from this locale. It varies from the very similar Dav-1941 in the mantling of the arms on the obverse. The bishopric was secularized in 1801 and annexed to Bavaria in 1802.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver, this specimen 28,06 g.
