Baden 1807 ducat Fr-148

Sincona sale 4, lot 4280

This specimen was lot 4280 in Sincona sale 4 (Zürich, October 2011) where it sold for 6,200 CHF (about US$8,248 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Baden-Durlach, ab 1806 Grossherzogtum Karl Friedrich, 1746-1811. Rheingolddukat 1807. Kl. Kr. Vorzüglich. (Grand Duchy of Baden, Charles Frederick, 1746-1811, Rhine gold ducat of 1807. Hairlines, extremely fine)."

All the ducats of Baden are scarce but this one year type is rare; this specimen realized four times the value listed in the SCWC. This was the first ducat issued since 1786 (see Fr-147).

Recorded mintage: 1,022.

Specification: 3.66 g, .938 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW, this specimen 3,67 g.
