Baden 1803-FE HB thaler Dav-513
This specimen was lot 32199 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $12,925. The catalog description[1] noted, "Baden. Karl Friedrich Proof Taler 1803 FE-HB PR64+ Cameo NGC. A strong strike with evidence of a 'ghosted' leaf on the reverse wreath, indicating that it was struck multiple times, as are all proofs. This is easily the finest piece of this type that has sold in the last decade and possibly the finest surviving example. A few toning spots on the obverse do not detract from the highly reflective surfaces and the lightly frosted devices. Its superlative condition, coupled with its prestigious pedigree, make this piece worthy of the most discriminating collector. Ex. Virgil Brand Collection (Leu 70, Zürich 1997), lot 5739." This rare type is listed for 1803 only.
Recorded mintage: 675.
Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver, this specimen 28,06 g.
