Baden 1768-W 2-1/2 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 34004 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Baden. Karl Friedrich 2-1/2 Kreuzer 1768-W MS67 NGC. An unheard-of grade for an 18th-century minor that borders on perfection. Full lustrous with blast-white color and every detail expertly rendered. From the Feeling Good Collection." The margrave of Baden-Durlach struck this denomination in 1733 (KM 71) and 1768 (shown here) only. Baden-Durlach was a small state and struck coinage only intermittently. Other issues for 1768 include a five kreuzer (KM 119), a half thaler (KM 116), a thaler (KM 117) and a ducat (KM 120). Baden-Durlach merged the Baden-Baden line in 1771 and was elevated to a grand duchy in 1806.
