Künker sale 335, lot 3363

This specimen was lot 3363 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €1,700 (about US$2,225 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BADEN, BADEN-BADEN, MARKGRAFSCHAFT, Wilhelm, 1622-1677. Reichstaler 1626, Baden-Baden. R Attraktives Exemplar mit feiner Patina, sehr schön. (Germany, margraviate of Baden-Baden, William, 1622-77, thaler of 1626, Baden-Baden mint. Attractive example with fine patina, very fine.)"

This rare type was struck 1625-27. Baden was divided into Baden-Baden and Baden-Durlach between 1515-1771. Badener issues are generally scanty prior to its enlargement in Napoleonic times.
