Steve Album sale 54, lot 2393

This specimen was lot 2393 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $390. The catalog description[1] noted, "AZORES: Luiz I, 1861-1889, AE 20 reis, 1866, no stops in reverse legend, very attractive, PCGS graded MS64 RB." This specimen is one of a type struck 1865-66 for the Azores. Similar ten and five réis also exist. They may be distinguished from regular Portuguese issues by having the denomination in Arabic numerals (Portuguese coppers have the denomination in Roman numerals).

Recorded mintage: 150,000.
