This specimen was lot 2632 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "AWADH: Amjad Ali Shah, 1842-1847, AR rupee, Lucknow, AH1258 year 1, NGC graded AU55." This type was struck AH 1258-1263. Amjad Ali Shah (1801-47) was the fourth king of Awadh. Rupees dated AH 1258 exist for his processor Muhammad Ali (KM 316.2). Later, a succession dispute resulted in British intervention and overlordship. Resentment of this and other acts led to the Indian Mutiny of 1857, which was centered at Awadh's capital Lucknow.
